Talking to Your Daughter about Fertility and Cycles

We have taught natural family planning for 50 years now, and while much has changed one thing hasn’t: The most common response of the women in our classes is “Why haven’t I heard any of this before now?” They make a good point: Young women deserve to be introduced to fertility awareness!
Especially with more and more attention being given to the importance of the female menstrual cycle — with some physicians even calling it the “5th vital sign — it is time for those of us who are fertility awareness experts to help women pass along information about fertility to their daughters.

Yet this isn’t easy, is it? How do you help your younger teenage girl going through puberty understand God’s design for her body? How do you engage your older teen? How do you make sure you cover what they need to know?

Fertility Science Institute has a unique online program to help mothers have a constructive dialog with their pre-teen and teen daughters and help them discover the gift of their body and fertility. The Mother Daughter Area is centered around a series of short video lessons. There are three different pathways that are age specific. Mother Daughter Basics is ideal for younger daughters (ages 9-12) to hear about the fertility cycle basics alongside their moms in talks from a fertility awareness teacher, a nurse practitioner and an OB/GYN. Mother Daughter Intermediate is intended for daughters ages 13-15, to dive deeper into fertility awareness, understanding hormones and the female body. Mother Daughter Advanced is intended for high school age daughters (ages 15-18) to discuss more advanced topics of cycles and fertility, as well as prepare for how to speak to doctors about these topics. Moms of older teens can opt to let their daughters watch on their own. For moms there is bonus content and a community area to support each other.
